The WPPAC Education Department is proud to announce our new program, the Afterschool Theatre Academy, a re-imagining of our school year theatre program. To expand our popular summer programming, we will be offering child, youth, and teen productions. These shows will be chosen to complement our Mainstage season and run much like our Summer Theatre Academy. To participate in the show, just sign up! Rehearsals will take place after school one or two days a week, depending on the program. Shows and Sharings will take place at the end of the session.

This fall, to complement our Mainstage production of AIDA, we are offering three fall show-based programs that focus on Ancient Egypt and musical theatre.

K-3 – Musical Theatre Songbook: Egypt
3-8 – Tut, Tut! A New Musical Play for Kids
8-12 – Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop: Aida

These programs will accompany our already established Afterschool Acting Classes and In-School Residencies.

More information about our show-based programs can be found below.

Musical Theatre Songbook: Egypt

Our youngest performers will learn songs from various musicals, all themed on Egypt. Possible shows from which to pull songs include: The Prince of Egypt, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and of course Aida itself, among others. At the end of six sessions, we will share what we’ve learned on the set of AIDA.

Tut, Tut!

For our youth and tween performers, we are offering the chance to perform in a short musical about Egypt! TUT, TUT! is inspired by the life of “King Tut” (the 10-year old who became King of Egypt) with a touch of Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper”. The story begins with a young Prince Tut who is bored of the royal life, so he wanders into the streets of the city looking for adventure. Suddenly he meets a peasant who looks just like him! They concoct a plan to trade places for three days. But when the King dies and Prince Tut must ascend the throne, their plan goes terribly awry.

Performers will rehearse two days a week for five weeks. After three days of tech, the show will be performed on the set of AIDA.
