Youth Classes (In-Person)

Stories On Stage

An exciting new class for our youngest performers! Each week, WPPAC Teaching Artists will share a new book with students, and theatrically explore the themes, characters and events. Students will ultimately create a new short play based on their favorite stories, which they will share in a final showcase.

Grades: K-2

Day/Time: Saturdays / 10:00 am – 11:15 am

Dates: (8 sessions) October 10 – December 12 (NO class November 7, 28)

Showcase: December 12 @ 11:00 am at WPPAC

New Play Creation

In this 8-session program, students create a brand new short play from scratch! Students use improvisation and dramatic writing exercises to write a brand new play. Students then rehearse their original work, bringing it to life! The class culminates with a showcase.

Grades: 1-5

Improv For Beginners

Students will practice essential improv skills: how to say “yes, and!” to their improv partners, work freely on impulse, stretch their imaginations, and create wacky worlds and characters in a safe and fun atmosphere! The class ends with a showcase.

Shakespeare’s World

Something wicked this way comes! Students will develop improv, language and acting tools and apply them to one of the greatest playwrights of all time: William Shakespeare! Students will explore Shakespeare’s world, take a deep dive into his poetry, and rehearse their own scenes from his classic play, Macbeth! The class will culminate in a showcase of scenes and monologues.

Build A Play Online

In this 8-session program, students create a brand new short play from scratch! Students use improvisation and dramatic writing exercises to write a brand new play. Students then rehearse their original work, bringing it to life! The class culminates with a showcase.

Online Acting Studio

Enter WPPAC’s online actor studio! Students will learn about developing character, committing to their objective and playing action. In addition to zany online theatre games, students will work with partners on scene work. The class will culminate with an online showcase.

Grades: 3-5

Playwright Collective

Students master the playwright’s tools: developing dynamic characters, crafting compelling plots, and creating vivid dialogue and stage directions. Over the 8 sessions, each student will write their own 10-minute play, and the program will end with an online showcase where students read their work.

Grades: 5-10

Adult Studio (In-Person)

Acting Studio: Scene Study

The first four sessions will focus on igniting curiosity, increasing vulnerability, and more fully inhabiting character and circumstance. In the final four sessions, actors will apply those skills to scenes from today’s most exciting new plays. Actors will share their work in a final showcase.

Ages: 18+

Health and Safety Protocols

In response to Covid-19, WPPAC has been closely following the guidance of state and local health officials. We have instituted plans and protocols to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Steps we have taken include:

  • Daily deep cleaning of all facilities with hospital-grade cleaning supplies, with regular disinfecting throughout the day
  • Contact-free temperature checks for students and staff
  • Staff and students wear masks or face shields at all times
  • Limited enrollment and maximal use of facilities to create space for learning
  • Regular breaks for hand washing and sanitizing

paul-loman-headshotPAUL LOMAN – Paul is an experienced music director, teacher, pianist, and composer. He studied music at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. He has accompanied and music directed youth, collegiate, and professional productions in Virginia, New Hampshire, and New York at Papermill Theatre, Performing Arts Luray, James Madison University, and the White Plains Performing Arts Center, among others. He has also composed new music for several musicals. Paul is currently the Music and Choir Director for St. Ann’s Church in Yonkers, and teaches music at St. Ann’s School.
