Bring the WPPAC Education Department to YOUR school!
COMMUNITY BUILDING
We work with students to create a safe space in which to work with hard topics including exclusion, teasing, and bullying. Using improvisation and drama games, students brainstorm real strategies to deal with these situations and practice them within the workshops.
ARTS INTEGRATION RESIDENCIES
In an Arts Integration residency, teaching artists partner with classroom instructors to teach academic concepts through the arts. When core curriculum is melded with artistic goals, many things are possible! Here are some examples of residencies:
English/Humanities:
While reading classic literature, students will delve into the story to put on characters from the book using theatre games and playwriting techniques. Writing monologues from the character’s point of view on a central story issue, students will dig into the tale, deepening understanding. Residency will end with a performance of the monologues.
Social Studies:
While studying current events, students will investigate the news of the day using process drama and newspaper theatre. By stepping into the story, they will learn more about the world and themselves.
Science:
While learning about the ocean, young students will embody scientific terms and concepts with age appropriate literature using story drama and narrative pantomime. Residency will end with a final performance demonstrating science and storytelling skills.
YOU PUT ON A SHOW!
Does your school want to put up a production? We can help! WPPAC can facilitate part or all of your school’s production, from securing the rights to building the set, to directing the show, to running the box office. Let your school be our school!
