WPPAC Mainstage Productions are the professionally “self-produced” productions of WPPAC featuring union and non-union actors from Broadway, national tours and regional theatre across the country. These productions are created from scratch, staffed with professional production teams (directors to designers), large LIVE orchestras and boast high-quality sets and costumes. Examples of recent MainStage productions (many of them NY Regional Premieres) include: Beauty and the Beast, Fun Home, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Sister Act, Heathers, Disney’s Tarzan & The Little Mermaid, Les Miserables, August: Osage County, The Color Purple – and the list goes on and on….
WPPAC’s Education program changes and grows with each set of students. We engage youth in theatre training that empowers them to unleash their imaginations and access their own artistic expression and aesthetic development. We are both artistic and educational, holding ourselves and our students to high standards while providing them with the tools necessary to meet those standards.
STAGE 2 bridges the gap between the WPPAC Educational Department offerings and the Mainstage, giving college and community performers the opportunity to work in a regional theatre setting under the guidance of professional artists. STAGE 2 also hosts other events in which local actors are invited to participate. Recent STAGE 2 productions include: Cabaret, West Side Story, In the Heights, Chess and Parade.
WPPAC also hand picks and engages a variety of talented performers, bands, comedians, children’s theatre, dancers and self-contained acts that have appeared elsewhere around the country. Examples of recent “special” events include: Linda Eder, The Maccabeats, Bubble Trouble, Robert Klein, Gilbert Gottfried, The Amazing Max, Jim Brickman, Mooseltoe, Well-Strung, My Life On a Diet (starring Renee Taylor), The Greatest Pirate Story (N)Ever Told! and tons of other world-class entertainment.
Guest Productions include co-productions and partnerships with community-based organizations and programs including our collaboration with Westchester Sandbox Theatre. Examples of recent guest productions include: Once Upon A Pastime, My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish and I’m in Therapy, Los Boricuas of Comedy, Jibaro Soy, Capicu!, Brazil Meets Jazz and A Tribute to Miles Davis (part of White Plains JazzFest), Shakespeare in the Park (Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It) and several co-productions with Harrison Summer Theatre and the New Musical Theatre Series (Dogfight, Spring Awakening, Disney’s On The Record, Legally Blonde, Songs for a New World and Rent).
These presentations at the White Plains Performing Arts Center are not produced or presented by WPPAC, but by an independent producing organization that has rented our premises. We make no representation or endorsement as to the content, quality or price of the production.
